Buddy’s first day home!

I can not believe how well buddy is doing! i picked him up,and was so scared, but he bounded out bombarding me with kisses and licks!  today he mainly slept, but did get up to go out a few times and did really well. Tonight he’s squeaking quite a bit, first dog i’ve ever had that squeaks, and although i’ve given him his pain meds he seems so alert and normal.i hope they are working. He is 7 years old, the vet said that for some reason with golden retrievers cancer usually shows up in the 7,8,and 9 years. I hope with this amputation the cancer will stay gone. it’s hard to look at sometimes and not feel like he’s upset about  getting this bum deal, but that’s probably just me. He is such a happy dog:) The vet’s office always comment on how happy buddy is even when he’s in pain. I agree, what a role model!

Tomorrow is thanksgiving, I am so grateful for Buddy and for everyone here on this website that have been so warm and welcoming. The forums are awesome too! I have gained so much support, hope and comfort here.. thanks:)

Hope everyone has a great thanksgiving:)

We are so excited that Buddy is home for Thanksgiving! Sounds like he is doing very well! Keep the positive attitude! Remember the cancer would have happened to Buddy no matter who he lived with, he was just fortunate to have a wonderful pawrent like you to get him through it! Cancer is horrible, but none of us are immune to it! This has been an eye opening experience for many of us! Stay strong and you will get through it!

I am glad Buddy was running for you even though the vet said that was a no no! It makes you smile deep down inside knowing he feels good enough to run around after his surgery! Good luck and keep us posted!!! You have lots to be Thankful for today! Make sure you shower Buddy with lots of treats!!! Peyton has become very spoiled (even more than before) since his amputation! Take Care!

We are so happy to hear Buddy has bounced back. Don’t mistake excessive panting or whimpers as him still being in pain – that may likely just be side effects from the dopey pain meds. And don’t think Buddy is upset about his “bum deal” – he is just happy to be rid of the tumor pain. Once he’s off the meds, this will show even more.

Welcome home Buddy! Thanks for the update.
